Lol, no. And no professional nanny takes jobs like this. The real nannies all get full time jobs through agencies.

Yep, that sounds about right. My colleague is a single mom of 3 school-age kids and she has an au pair who does mornings and does afterschool/early evening until mom comes home.

We've been able to get this kind of gap filling childcare, but it's always been because there is a neat fit with the babysitter's schedule.

The babysitters were and are teachers or daycare employees who teach near our children's schools and the times we needed were either right before their work day starts or shortly after it ends. It was a convenient way for them to make an extra few bucks on their way to/from work, essentially.

That’s nonsense. My references and experience always spoke plenty. I’ve never had issues finding a job without an agency.

If you're willing to do a nanny share and not cut the rate significantly, You'll find someone who's other family is willing to share hours for a little discount. I've done that (as a nanny.) For me it started because I was working for a mom who had just gone back to work and didn't need me Mondays or after 3 on Wednesdays, and the kids dad picked them up around 4 on T-Th, so it fit nicely with the other family until the first family's schedule changed and I had a whole gaggle of kids some days. It was only for a couple of months, so we rode it out.

Just saying--there might be a classmate or two in your neighborhood also looking for aftercare. If you pool your kids and pay, it could be a pretty sweet gig for someone.

Except OP is looking for someone who can drive the kids to activities too. That wouldn't work out with another family unless that family's kids also were in the exact same activities/sessions/teams as OP's kids, and there was a vehicle large enough for all the kids available.

I never had a problem finding an afternoon nanny because we promised at least 20 hours a week, and paid well. Most schools offer before care, which is probably a better option for mornings.
