We only had gates on the stairs and locks on the undersink cabinet that has the chemicals. We took the gate down when DS was 2-2.5. I am keeping the locks on the cabinet for a while longer, no plans to remove them. |
Around 4. I have MS so bending down , etc is a challenge. Having the gates up wer super helpfu. |

when youngest was 4 or so? |
DDis 2.5 and I can’t think of anything in the house that’s necessarily been childproofed with a device for a while now. Our house is well set up for keeping things out of reach ie. We have a closed laundry and workshop where we keep all the chemicals, medicines are easily stored out of reach in a closet (I even need a step to get them). Our stairs are carpeted and not very steep, and she was negotiating them well at 18 mo, so the gates were gone before that. I do find the occasional outlet cover we’ve forgotten about, but she’s never been interested in outlets, so we used them sparingly. She probably could get to the knives if she felt driven enough to do so, but she has her own “safe” ones, so ours aren’t that interesting. |
