Just a point of accuracy -- /th/ isn't a blending sound (two sounds together, like /sl/. It is one sound, represented by two letters.

A good Montessori school would have a heavy emphasis on phonics so if your child had difficulty with it you might want to look at visual or auditory processing. A optometrist that specialized in vision therapy can give you a good screening. I like to rule out those issues first. Modern Curriculum Press has some great phonics workbooks that we used to transition Montessori students to traditional curriculum with ease.
