What dose of Lexapro is your tween/teen on?

DD takes 10 mg. She’s been on the same dose for 6 years for anxiety. We tried to go up to 20 mg but she became activated and just seemed really disinhibited. She’s a rule follower and was suddenly getting into loads of trouble. When we reduced the dose, the behavior disappeared. I think she’d get more benefit from a higher dose if she could tolerate it but 10 mg definitely takes the edge off. The psych felt she was likely to have an issue with Prozac since it’s also an SSRI. Instead she suggested we add Deplin and that seemed to be a huge help.

I personally took it years ago and felt 10 mg was enough for me and had no need to go up.

Thank you - this is so helpful to hear about the various challenges we could be facing if we increased. What is Delphin? Never heard of it, another reason it’s helpful to hear from real life experiences.

I am the pp who is interested, diet makes no difference to DS's social anxiety. Why would you think eating broccoli, gluten free, dairy free, and organic would make a dent in social anxiety? He takes supplements and amino acids, how would that affect his social phobia?

Dr. is always giving smallest dose, and I wonder what dose for 138lbs? Which one works faster? He takes buspar, and it is not working for performance anxiety that is almost at the panic attack level.

Update from me. Above pp. DS, 140 lbs was just put on 5mg, low dose in combination with buspar now. I don't know if it was a placebo but he called me(he drives) from his sport's practice to tell me that he is finally feeling like himself and playing freely. Last time he took Lexapro he giggles all night, younger than now. Is it possible that he is that sensitive to these meds that there is some immediate benefit at such a small dose? or is it a placebo effect? Thanks.(I was so relieved to get such a positive phone call and he called me 3 times to tell me how he is feeling good!)

My DS is much younger (6 years old) but has been on 3.0mL for nearly a year and a half. We began seeing improvement within days.

Thanks for that info. I sure hope it works for DS.
