OP here. We can make it a reality. 1. Free education. No student debt means doctors can charge less, and it won’t discourage people from becoming doctors. 2. Money will be spent on health care and not employees paid to enroll you, deny your benefits, etc. |
OP here. In 9th grade the US history teacher told us that democracy means the people participate in the public. He explained what a democracy was and representative democracy was. He said the US is just a democracy, not a representative democracy. I was confused. How are we not a representative democracy if we have the electoral college. But I have to listen to the teacher because he has a degree in his subject and knows what he’s teaching. Kinda like how a patient listens to the doctor instead of teaching their doctor. |
A democratic republic. We, the people, don't vote directly for issues. |
This is where you went wrong. Believe it or not, education is not about "listening to the teacher." It is about Learning How to Learn. Your teacher is not infallible. No teacher is. They are often wrong. Students should ask questions of their teachers - challenge them. If there is a conflict about what they are saying, students should do their own research. Present that to the teacher. You are on the internet. Do your own research. Learn about our government and how it works. And why we have an electoral college. |
Why not create a system where people can vote directly on issues? |
OP here. School gave me a sufficient education on that. And teachers are not often wrong, or they wouldn’t be allowed to teach the subject. Especially in a 1st world country. |
Sounds like a utopia. Which means - it is not reality. Free education - who pays? It's not free. And, if the government pays, you realize the cost will naturally increase, not decrease. And, you believe that if doctors get a "free" education, they will automatically charge less? And, if the government pays for this "free" healthcare... that cost will naturally increase as well. Which brings me back to - who is paying for free college and free healthcare. Because, it is not really free. Someone pays. |
I am beginning to think you are a troll. Your OP demonstrates that school did not give you sufficient education. And, you need to learn a little more about our education system if you think teachers are always right. And, I say this as a teacher. |
Taxes pay. I think if students don’t have access to unlimited student loans, college prices will decrease. I also think people should go to college only if they want to be in a field that requires a degree. We should encourage more vocational schools and apprenticeships. |
The US is not a democracy, nor a republic. It's a kleptocracy. The Declaration of Independence is a fascist manifesto. The Constitution is a blueprint for capitalist fascism focused on protecting private property because the elite rich owned most of the property.
If we want democracy and a humane society, we can have one, but not by voting. |
Because, our forefathers found a system that has worked pretty darn well for almost 250 years. It was not designed as a system where people can vote directly on issues at the national level. |
OP here. I never said teachers are ALWAYS[u] right. But history and government teachers in every grade told me the US is a democracy from 4th grade onward. I can’t imagine the school system letting that many teachers to be clueless. |
OP here. Well that’s how it should be. All issues and laws should be decided by the majority of he public. If the public votes no on the law, then no. If the public votes yes or don’t care on a law, then yes. |
I don't think YOU were paying attention or reading your history/government books. Because, had you actually read your books, you wouldn't be here making this claim. And, having said that.......I am done with you. In order to learn, you have to be willing to learn. I don't think you are. |
OP here. I got good grades on all my tests, so I was paying attention. |
