catholic vrs public

My child went to a Catholic elementary school for K and 1.

While I did love the small community, I was not that impressed with teh teaching ability or training of the teachers. The teachers were very nice people, but they just didn't seem to have the education and on-going training opportunities required of and available to teachers in the public school district. They also did not have the support teachers available for extra help for different children.

I felt that the teaching methods used were rather outdated and heavily reliant on workbooks. The pace was fairly slow. I felt the school taught well to the "good average" student, but there was little attempt at differentiating for faster or slower learners.

This was my experience as well (though not in this area).
Als, OP, you do have to ensure you are comfortable with the religious teachings. It can be a bit much (it is subtle as well as the direct teachings) if you are not Catholic.
