So I did point it out and tried to fix it for her before she left but was unable to because she was missing the piece which “locks” the seatbelt so the strap can’t extend any further. Just second guessing myself. No one wants to be “that person” but also genuinely care about her and her baby.

Her car must be quite old. Is it possible to find a replacement piece? You can buy so many things nowadays.

You can get locking clips on Amazon. Her car must be really, really old though since US cats have been required to have locking seat belts since 1996.

Diono Super-Lock, Secures Lap or Shoulder Belt in Place for Child Car Seats, Steel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005PK1D1A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_57HcDbKN6AET8

These are locking clips in case anyone else needs them.

With my first DC I had the chest clips too low. My childless friend pointed out to me that they are supposed to be at armpit level. I honestly don't know how I misunderstood the instructions at the time, but I was grateful that my friend said something.

Can’t she attach the car seat with the LATCH system? No locking clip required that way.

My sister just posted a photo of my 33 pound, 4 year old niece in a booster with a seat belt buckle. “She’s a big girl now!”...except she’s not.

Omg that’s crazy. Did you send her a pm?

Not really.

Please say something - we were buckling our first in wrong until daycare gently pointed it out. We felt dumb to have been doing it wrong and were glad to have learned how to do it properly.

You were right to say something. Hopefully they can find the piece they need or use latch or something.

This is a joke reply, right? I reader faced my kid until she was 4 and kept her harnessed a long time, and I say a 4-year-old in a seatbelt with a booster is suboptimal, but not OMG CRAZY. I’ve seen <2-year-olds in just a seatbelt (not even a booster). Now THAT is “crazy.”

Rear faced, not reader faced.

I saw a 6 month old baby on NY ave in the front seat, no carseat or booster, holding mom's phone as mom chatted with her. It was one of the craziest things ever. Not exaggerating the age either. Just had to get that off my chest.

This is crazy. I saw someone with a baby in a sling get in to the front size and her husband sped away. That was also crazy. A 4 year old in a booster isn’t ideal but fine.

The car seat lady strongly suggests not putting a 4 year old in a booster and absolutely not a 3 year old even if they meet the height and weight requirements.

This.

The Swedes switch from rear facing to boosters at 4. Boosters with seat belts.

Not in a car that old.

What do you mean "that person". If you were my friend and noticed that my baby was in grave danger because I did not have the car seat put in correctly because maybe I did not know or someone else who did not had no clue, you think I would be upset at you? No, I would love you if you pointed and saved m y baby life and I would be angry at you if I knew you noticed and did not help.

Never hesitate to mention that the local police station is happy to properly install a car seat.

Do you realize how dangerous is for the baby to be in accident in a car seat that could became loose. Think of how you would feel if something happened to the baby.
