They are not pros, yet. If he takes the Summer off playing video games, don't complain that he is not starting in the Fall. To be good at soccer, you need to play soccer. There is no other way. It may feel good because you don't have to drive them around but they kids who put in the work will be rewarded.

Lol sure if you play super y your kid will move up to the top team and starter... because the top player on the top team did not play super y. That’s not how it works.

Can someone explain the difference in down time when folks say play pickup/camps vs playing super y. I checked out a practice didnt seem more rigorous than a typical practice. Or is the view to just not play soccer at all and that would be down time?

Pickup = Snapchat/text/contact local group and meet up at a field and play
Camps = Structured 1-5 day, varying daily time, coach/trainer led events
Super Y = Summer league, similar to any other league that you may play in
Down Time = Sit at home and not play
Practice on own = player takes it upon himself/herself to go in the front yard and juggle, find youtube video's of individual foot skills, etc.

There are pro/con to each

My DD did Super Y during three summers and we found it useful for staying in shape and getting touches. The rosters are normally 20+ players to accommodate vacations and summer schedules. She made it to about half the practices and games. You should not take it super serious.

Agree. Mine played a few years back and we skipped the hot days for sure.

I'm doing Super Y this year as a rising U11 so that my kid can get used to playing 9 v 9 before the season starts.
That's about the only reason.

money grab, your kid will get used to playing what he needs to play when practice and the season starts like most of the other kids. pointless. players and a ball, same as before.

As a coach, I hope your kid is never on my team.
There is a HUGE difference when you switch to a larger team, and I would love it if the kids on my team had a summer to get used to it.

A lot of time it’s the same old practices they have been doing since late August, with the same coach, same players, divided into the same levels groups(A, B, C etc teams). Down time could be you play another sport, you surf, you do whatever...you just do not play organized soccer. Pickup games have no coaches or parents. It’s just the kids playing.

It isn't going to make a difference if your player is "used" to 9v9 or not. Rising U11's don't get used to it until the spring.

Ha ha love the grammar police on all the threads.

God I hate all of the 'money grab' comments on this forum. No one is forcing you to pay anything. If it's not for you don't do it.

Like anything else in a capitalist society, let the supply and demand determine what an acceptable cost is for a service.

Calling something a money grab is simply saying its not worth what you pay for it, or there are better uses for your money --- presumably this is based on knowledge or experience with the product.

Like anything else in democratic society, let people voice their opinions on what their experience / belief about something is, and readers can make up there own mind.

This isn't Russia, Danny.

BTW: Poster was right, Super Y is a money grab (I wouldn't do it again) --- however, probably better value than say 3-4 sleep away camp at a college.

our super y team has a very large roster, most of the kids play 2-4 of the games and training is optional. A lot of the players are not on the regular roster but use it to get a look from the coaches.

the coach makes it clear, you can't play more than 4 of the games.

There were a bunch of Bethesda Super Y teams playing in the Embassy Cup this past weekend.
