What it boils down to is much dumber kids—painfully below par—getting in because they identify as a diff color other than Asian and white.

How about looking for ways to nurture ALL underprivileged kids, and stop tinkering with skin color??!??!???!??

There are some minority ny times editors who went to stuy and are making it their obsession to frame this as a anti black/brown rich whitey thing, when really it’s 100% overachiever Asians drowning all races out (including whites)

? better than 100% under achieving brown/black kids.... see how that works?

I am a graduate of one of the schools - Bronx Science. Most of the online feedback from alumni has been to keep admissions tied to the test. That said. as a white lower middle class male the open mindedness and diversity at Science was fantastic. It saddens me that folks of color are under-represented. There is a program that if you scored close to the minimum and were low income you could take classes over the summer and secure admission. They are discussing expanding this program and that’s a great idea. I think we have to some how normalize for opportunity. Admissions should still be objective but the experience was enhanced by the diversity.

It's crazy.

The answer is not lower standards and special breaks for certain minorities. The solutions is to encourage other minorities to buckle down and study hard like Asians. Less hip hop and more Confucius, in other words.

That's what they are doing: the plan "offers a certain number of seats at each school to low-income students, and eliminating a standardized test that determines admittance to the schools. They also proposed amending the eligibility criteria to target students at high-poverty high schools."

People who are not underprivileged are mad about it because they don't want "those kids" taking a seat in the classroom.

+1 . At some point the handicaps will end and these people will have to compete on their own merits.

Lol...you couldn’t find enough blacks that were remotely interested in attending the gifted schools. But yeah, let’s dumb down the curriculum to accommodate the lowest common denominator.

Agree.

What kind of sick person goes out of their way to discriminate against over achieving kids? What makes it even more disgusting is that his agenda is race based.

That absentee low IQ mayor is dragging NYC back into the gutter.

especially since black males are about 6% and black women are about 6% of the total US populations

How true. Too bad no one is allowed to express this opinion.
