Leaving a club quietly?

Is your kid an amazing goalie on a top ranked team and the back up goalie isn't good? If so the club might care, if not they won't. Your kid is easily replaceable.

At younger age groups it matters less. At older age groups positions matter. Losing your top two defensive players on the top team would make our coaches pretty upset, and they'd definitely want to know why.

We left a club under what sounds like similar circumstances.

No one really cares. Travel soccer is all about ones own kid and those relationships with the other parents aren't as tight as you think.

The club also didn't care, but then they hadn't shown any appropriate concern for our kid when he was injured, anyway.

Yes, just leave and don’t burn bridges. Communicate the facts but nothing more. Club won’t care. Coach might, and you may run into him/her again so keep it cordial even if you don’t like or respect them.

Is it actually hard to leave ‘quietly’. We are doing it this year and I am sure parents are wondering... did she not make the team, why are you leaving... as if we have to justify our move. It’s all gossip to other people which is basically this entire forum.

Don't burn the bridge if you think you might return. We've had at least three players over the last few years leave our club for greener grass (bigger fancy name club) only to return after realizing that is bs.

True. Also true that a lot people on DCUM - and in life - think other people spend a lot of time thinking about them.

They will gossip for a day and then forget about you which is fine. The thing with travel teams with kids from many different schools is that you don't really see those families on a regular basis after switch teams.
