2019 Summer Camp Recommendations and Reviews

I’ve been super surprised by Koa Tennis camp. They have various locations. They have 1/2 and full day options. Hey have been ridiculously flexible with my changing between 1/2, full, before and after care.

It’s not all bells and whistles. But my ADHD/ASD child is doing amazing with no real support. There’s just enough structure and supervision. I spoke to the program director on site on day 1 and she keeps an eye out for my child but he’s pretty much is one of the campers.

At the end of the day he is hot, sweaty, tired, and happy. He showers when we get home, eats dinner, and falls asleep. He’s 9. We’ve done a lot of SN camps including JCC Rockville and he is by far happiest here

We didn't have a good experience with Calleva last year and read about others who had similar problems on the 2018 list. I think they are flying by the seat of their pants.

We have three more calleva weeks. If they don't improve, we will look elsewhere for adventure activity camps.

Nice! It's always great when you find an environment that clicks! Had he taken much tennis before the camp?

Not really. During the school year he is enrolled in a 1/2 hr lesson once a week but he never practices. It’s more just running around and trying to hit the ball.

First two weeks of KAH Adventure Camp have gone well. Kids like the counselors, say the other kids are mostly nice, and come home tired and happy.

It'd be helpful if people would note what are 1/2 day camps too. Knowing a camp is wonderful but also only operates from 9-12:30 is useful info for working parents.

DS just finished 1st week in Steve and Kate in Arlington, and so far he likes it. Seems like there is a good variety of activities and it’s well organized.

My kid just finished up a week at All American Sports Camp in Arlington run by SportzCampz4Kidz and loved it. He was excited to go each morning and came home sweaty and happy each afternoon. I was really impressed with the staff; they were engaging and fun. And the price was right, too.

My DD just finished Way Off Broadway 2-week theater camp through Rockville city. She loved it. It's pretty inexpensive compared to other full day camps. It's 9-3 with extended day starting at 8 and ending at 5:30. In two weeks they put on a 1-hour play. I was very impressed. My DD had a great time! The counselors and director were very good, responsive.

My kids did Calleva 2 summer ago. They did the outdoor variety camp where they are supposed to do something new each day. What I objected to is that the kids played in the creek all day instead of doing the activity. Playing in the creek is fine but then don’t make me pay for an activity camp.

My kids love this camp too. They have been to much fancier ones and this one is a winner every time.
