u13 Bethesda vs Stoddert (lower level)

Anonymous
I would rather be the star player at Stoddert looking to join a new club than a star player at Bethesda Green looking to jump up two levels. I mean it could happen, but the vibe I get from many BSC parents is that the club is more interested in bringing in new players (and money) from outside and uses promotion (or at least promises of promotion) to do so, instead of promoting from within.

Parents will tell you different across age and color--some see Green kids get promoted and others see top Blue kids passed over year and year again for 'new blood' to the club.

i agree with this. It would be better to be a star player coming from outside than trying to get promoted 2 levels from within. The later is never going to happen.

Honestly (this is the harsh reality), in my experience, if your kid isn't ECNL/DA material at U13 it's not going to be easy to ever make the jump from a 3rd tier team. I honestly haven't see it happen.

So a girl on BSC ‘s green team(what 3rd or 4th team) would be a star on Stoddert’s blue(top team)? Is there really that much of a talent drop off at Stoddert?

That was OP's question: "Is BSC’s third team comparable to Stodderrt’s top team?"

And I think the answer is, no, it's not.

White is a little better. Green not.

Green Team Bethesda girls who get fed up with life on the lower tram generally go to Potomac A. I'm a BSC parent, but not familiar with Stoddert.

No, not at all. Stoddert blue (top) matches up with the team below Bethesda’s ECNL. Depending on the year Stoddert is 100% competitive at this level or not so much. I have two girls who have played for these clubs so I’ve watched their match-ups at tournaments for years.

On the boys side in our age group I'd match Stoddert's top team vs. Bethesda's Green side (1st team vs. 3rd team). Not sure how other age groups / genders would match up but just our observation.

What are the various levels/colors under the DA team at BSC for boys? For the U13 boys, for example, Stoddert blue (A team) is roughly the same level as BSC blue (112 vs 93 regionally). White BSC is 558th in the region.

Bethesda’s U13 Blue are a statistical outlier due to last season in which the team imploded under a crazy coach (let go in the off season). They spiraled down in the rankings and have had a slow slog back up. The now have some DA players who moved down from the reduced sized DA and they just reached the semifinals of the MD state cup and didn’t make the finals due to a shortened rain game called at halftime that they could have won in full time. I have seen both Stoddert and Bethesda Blue play and the latter would win. Bethesda Green and Stoddert would probably be more evenly matched with Stoddert probably a little better. Bethesda doesn’t have a u13 white this year.

Get out of this idea that Bethesda is the end-all-be-all. Bethesda ECNL is struggling. The only ECNL team at Bethesda to qualify for ECNL nationals is the oldest team (u19).BRYC and Mclean had multiple teams.

Look for good coaches. Ask around. Also, avoid traveling at this age. Bethesda's B team will play in ECNL II, which means that the team will compete against the B teams on the normal ECNL schedule. That team will travel to play games n MA, CT, PA, NY and NJ.

It looks like they have changed admin and coaches on the girls side. Do you think this was cause by the struggles in the other age groups?

It’s easier if you just ignore the DA when talking about A/B/C teams although many people here insist on keeping it.

Bethesda Blue - A, Green - B, White - C

Blue at Bethesda is typically a very competitive A team against other clubs A teams, and similar with Green and White. Some of the clubs don’t have the same depth.

Bethesda Green players have 0% chance of making Potomac Blue teams. Sorry PP.

For girls, it really varies on the year at BSC depending on competitiveness . . .i.e, how lines up with Stoddert or Potomac. Anyone looking at BSC needs to research the particular year.
