Lice - school policy question

I can not imagine a classroom teacher being responsible for this. It can be very difficult to find unless they have been there for quite a while.

Volunteer to be the lice check lady, or volunteer to pay someone to come in. This should not be a teacher responsibility.

Two weeks ago the outbreak started and they did things like was the stuffed animals but no head checks when students came in. Now there was another outbreak, did head checks and said no more cases. A concerned parent asked to have a lice clinic check the kids and they ended up finding four more cases which tells me the teachers didn’t do a good job checking. The director told us checks would be done on Monday morning when kids came in - also did not happen today.

I am pissed off - while I know lice aren’t going to harm a child, they are gross and if my kid gets it, I’ll have to take off work to manage it which is a huge pain. Am I overreacting? Any advice for how to handle? I am mad that policy is not being followed and they are totally lying to us.

You do not have to take off work to manage lice. It’s 30-45 minutes of combing once every 2-3 days. Also, without wet hair and a metal lice comb it’s impossible for your school to be actually checking for lice. They are just paying lip service. Please educate yourself - you sound like a moron.

To thoroughly check every student it would take all morning for sure and maybe longer. I check my 2 kids once a week because of outbreaks this year, and I’m losing focus by the end of checking the second. This shouldn’t be a teachers job, I can’t imagine being able to do a class of kids and keep them under control at the same time.

Agree, been through it twice during all our years of elementary school. It's not that big of a deal.
