My 3 year old and I both have eczema and heat is definitely a trigger. It doesn’t even need to be warm enough to be sweaty for us; we both recently got flare ups. |
My 3 yr hasn’t really ever had a problem with eczema but all of a sudden appears to have a large rash under one of the armpit and down the side under the arm. Does it seem odd for it to be eczema if it’s not under both arms? |
My son’s eczema flares during summer when allergies flare. If you can’t control it then I’d see a Derm. This year, the normal steroid prescription didn’t do a thing so we figured this out...
What works for us: - lukewarm bath or shower each evening - immediately after bathing — within 2 minutes while skin is slightly damp — apply Vanicream (from the big white/blue tub) and cover that with Vaseline-brand petroleum jelly - sleep in long-sleeves Mornings: - take chewable Claritin - apply Vanicream + Vaseline Throughout day, use a damp cool cloth anytime been out playing in grass or park to help remove allergens. Reapply creams if needed. |
I have two DDs with eczema, and one breaks out in the summer. A few ideas for you:
1. Have you been using sunblock or bug spray? We had a sunblock that triggered outbreaks and had to switch. 2. Have you eased up on daily lotion regimen due to the change of seasons? My daughters need to get slathered every single day all year to keep eczema away. 3. Any thing else changed due to the seasonal change? Increase or decrease in bathing? Eating more ice cream? (Dairy and sugar trigger my DD). Etc. |
the spray sun screen was causing eczema to flare on my kids. Dr switched us to mineral-based lotion sunblock and it got much much better. we use blue lizard, but there are lots of choices out there. |
I'm a middle aged adult and just started getting eczema in the summer only in the past few years. I believe it is heat related. I cover my arms when driving to avoid the sun. Even when I wear sunscreen it doesn't help. I need to keep my skin covered. My skin flared on a vacation to Florida which is why I think it is heat related. I use lotion daily but need to use a steroid cream to clear it up. Every summer is different though so we'll see what happens this season. It's frustrating! |
Could it be a reaction to sunscreen? |
