My parents are becoming slobs

It’s more than not throwing out the trash, pp. OP said the place was filthy and the refrigerator has old/moldy food.

I’ve cleaned out my parent’s frig like you have, OP. Maybe you could hire someone to do a deep clean for Mother’s and Father’s Day.

I'm in my 60s. Nope, this isn't normal. 60s isn't old, btw. Are they newly retired? Maybe it's low level depression from giving up a career or friends. Lack of purpose.

Sorry..didn't catch your response. Then, frankly, they just have a different threshold of housekeeping than when they needed to keep things more organized. Probably your mom is tired of household chores and your dad doesn't care. That's what would hapoen here if I stopped cleaning- my DH really doesn't ever clean or notice when things aren't.

This sounds like someone who doesn't know how nice it is to be retired

This is my in-laws. I've traveled all over the world without issue, but have gotten food poisoning twice at their home!

I can only clean it out and clean up for them so often without it just feeling like I’m wasting my time. Can’t seem to convince them to get a cleaner yet. Any suggestions if you’ve dealt with this too?

Sounds like my husband! 38 yo.

Your mom got sick and tired of picking up after your father. This is the result.
Are they considering divorce?

+1 Your mom gave up. Took 25, 30, 35 years but she is done doing everything. And your father isn't stepping up in squalor either.
