MCPS is not in La Plata. |
Is there a meteorological reason why big tornadoes can happen in Charles County, Maryland, but not in Montgomery County, Maryland? |
|
Well, I used to drive through La Plata in my way to work and happened to do that the day after that tornado hit the town.
I think the geographic location of La Plata does factor into the size of that tornado. That said, after driving through a town like that, and seeing what can happen, I would not Ben nonchalant about a warning anywhere at all. |
Tornados can happen anywhere .. there was one that caused several deaths in College Park in 2001. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.baltimoresun.com/bal-te.md.storm25sep25-story,amp.html More recently (2017), tornados have touched down in DC. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcwashington.com/weather/stories/Strong-Storms-Could-Move-in-for-Thursday-Morning-Rush-418418493.html%3famp=y |
Was just going to mention the College Park tornadoes. A very big swath of trees was knocked flat, in addition to a car being picked up and killing two women. Definitely not something to mess with in a populated area like this! |
