Tornado warning

They aren't to pick up kids at the next school til the warning is lifted. But if they are already en route, they want the kids home.

So you THINK this is the protocol. You don’t know, you just think this.

Thanks for sharing. Posts like this really add to the conversation

The poster was just adding a possible thought to the conversation. If you (or the OP, I'm not sure if you are a new poster or the OP) really want to know the exact answer, you should be calling the school and not posting on an anonymous discussion board. Otherwise, it's free game to discuss various ideas and hypotheses. If someone has a link to something official, then great

You either don't know your history or you are hard to impress. Make your pick.

The tornado hit La Plata MD at 7:02 p.m. April 28, 2002, and damaged or destroyed 860 homes and 194 businesses.

MCPS is not in La Plata.

Is there a meteorological reason why big tornadoes can happen in Charles County, Maryland, but not in Montgomery County, Maryland?

Well, I used to drive through La Plata in my way to work and happened to do that the day after that tornado hit the town.

I think the geographic location of La Plata does factor into the size of that tornado. That said, after driving through a town like that, and seeing what can happen, I would not Ben nonchalant about a warning anywhere at all.

Tornados can happen anywhere .. there was one that caused several deaths in College Park in 2001.

More recently (2017), tornados have touched down in DC.

Was just going to mention the College Park tornadoes. A very big swath of trees was knocked flat, in addition to a car being picked up and killing two women. Definitely not something to mess with in a populated area like this!
