Moving from Montessori to Public School K or 1 st grade?

Hi there,

I am doing research now as my son is in his 2nd year of Montessori. I went to the local public school and talked to principal and I asked a similar question about integration at grade 1. She said that in her experience, kids quickly make friends at grade 1. We decided to keep son at Montessori for grade K for a number of reasons, but feel that push comes to shove, he'd do well either path.

For us,

1. Son talks all the time about how next year he can do the Kindergarten work. Says he'll be the big kid next year.
2. He's doing really well and learning way more than I ever imagined in the last year. I can only imagine after another year.
3. We love his teacher. He's had same one since 3 years old and I think it would be great to have such a close relationship with your K teacher.
4. There was no spot in the FCPS SACC program for him next year. So--that made it open and shut for us.

I think the difficulty of transition will have a lot to do with your child's personality.
