Assuming that the language / example in this link are outdated:
"students NOT currently attending a DCPS school and who DO NOT have a sibling in a DCPS school:
• Starting in SY 2015-16, your child will have the right to attend only the newly assigned DCPS school."

If you want to enroll your child in Deal - it appears you might be able to through 2022.

I read that differently. See the final example:
EXAMPLE: Families re-assigned to the new MacFarland MS will continue to have rights to the middle school or PK-8 school assigned to their address until MacFarland MS opens. Once MacFarland MS opens, these families will only have a geographic right to attend MacFarland MS

MacFarland is open, so why would the PP still have rights to Deal if kids are in a charter?

West never (or at least hasn't in at least 20 years) had FEEDER rights to Deal. Many people who are zoned for West as their elementary school have had GEOGRAPHIC (based on address) rights to attend Deal. These are what changed somewhat during the 2014 boundary review process, and were then grandfathered in until 2022-2023, at which time another review will be conducted. So as many others have said, if someone were to buy a house in 16th St Heights now and their elementary school is West, they should pay close attention to what the middle school is. In some parts, if their child is entering middle school prior to 2022-2023, they will have the option between Deal and MacFarland and in others it will just be MacFarland. After 2022-2023, most likely they will only have MacFarland as an option (although this is certainly up for debate).
