College Park is so cool now

Its restaurant scene is better than ever with cool new taquerias, asian fusion restaurants, etc replacing old pizza by the slice spots.

It has the Milkboy Arthouse concert venue which opened in 2017. It features a mix of smaller time musical acts and internationally known artists with a more artsy/cultural vibe through a partnership through U Md's Clarice center.

From wikipedia: " The venue is the first in the United States to be a private-public performance space combined with the University of Maryland's Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center."

I don't live in College Park, but I just want to a show at Milkboy and felt like I needed to start this thread

What DC suburb can compete with College Park in terms of being as cool?

There is nothing cool about anything in the DC area. It's great for yuppies, but cool? Nothing.

I work at UMD and am glad to see the positive changes in College Park. But the changes are coming with a price: trees are going down and traffic and construction are getting worse and worse. Eventually, when the Purple Line stuff settles in, it will all be fine. But this "transition" period sucks for those of us commuting in and out of College Park regularly.

That said, I very much like some of the new additions, especially The Hotel. But what people don't get is that the administration is sinking money into the commercial stuff, and campus is suffering. There are JANK buildings on that campus, and the administration is more concerned with cosmetic and commerce matters, not taking care of the much-needed infrastructural updates on campus.

Following this.

We rent in one of the cool areas mentioned. Want to buy but can’t afford it, looking for next best thing.

What cool restaurants are in downtown Bethesda?

Some competitors:
Silver Spring - maybe could be considered cooler.... they have AFI silver, have the Fillmore venue, but are a little bit too cookie cutter to get 1st place
Bethesda - yeah, really nice, but not as "cool"
Clarendon - also has performing arts, bars, restaurants etc, but too douchey
Takoma Park - too crunchy, too old
anything farther out in Virginia than Arlington - no, just no

OP, the words "cool" and "suburb" can never be used in the same sentence.
Sniff sniff

I started this thread to talk about how college park is cool. I don't care to defend Bethesda anymore than saying it's a nice and has lots of dining/shopping options

And I am telling you I’m not going...

Er, its not even the coolest suburb in NW PG County. THAT would be Hyattsville.
