Plank.

This is a normal plank for me. I could do 3 mins when I was fit but now after 3 kids, 20s would probably kill me.

OP, keep doing it, you’d be surprised how quickly you will improve.

This is how I’ve always done planks. I had no idea people did them otherwise.

Right. Planking != plank

Yeah, the whole point is that you're super rigid, like a plank. Some soft stretching type of thing is not a plank.

On second thought, maybe that's the issue... that some people don't have the general knowledge to know what a real plank is? So therefore the name seems kind of random to them?

I think it's just a marketing ploy by RKC, which is known for being very commercialized and for overly marketing themselves. Yea, people sometimes do planks wrong, but instead of just correcting the faults they created a whole new name for just squeezing your muscles. I mean, I could market a new exercise called the "Larlo curl" where you tense all your muscles but....it's still just a bicep curl.

I've been working on extended planks, where you extend your arms out in front of your torso.

Once again, you can't hold a tension plank for 3 minutes.

There's a HUGE difference between just tightening your abs, and tensing your entire body.

With a proper RKC plank, your whole body should be literally shaking and you should be grunting.

Otherwise, it's just a plank.

can you describe in detail how you do it, and how long you hold it?

If you google it there are tons of pictures. How long I can hold it varies on how far I put my hands out, but I try to put them at a distance where I can hold it 30-60 seconds.

LOL at all the defensive "competitive plankers" on here. DCUM.

I'm not being competitive about it all all - I'm just annoyed that people don't get what it actually is. Anyone who has done yoga planks (or claims they plank for 4 minutes) would find an RKC/tension plank very different.

Ok, so you still don't get it. It's not the picture, but the description of the tension and bracing in your body that matter.
