Subway tile that perfectly matches Benjamin Moore White Dove

Do you have a link for the tiles that you used? Thanks!

In the same exact boat- busy, dark granite countertops, White Dove cabinets- trying for a white subway tile backsplash that is not too cool or too beige. So far my non-pure-white sample has an undertone that is too pink. Did you end up making a selection? Would love to hear it!

I bought an inexpensive off-white (but not quite cream) subway tile and used a gray grout when I unexpectedly had a bathroom repair that evolved into re-tiling the bathtub. I repainted with White Dove, which was left over from my kitchen remodel ... either I was lucky or the gray grout helped manage the undertone issue, but it worked out well. I love White Dove.

Hi, I have cherry cabinets and just put in beautiful serine gold quartz. My island is off white toward cream. I am having difficulty finding a backsplash. I was hoping to just get a subway tile that would blend with counterstops since they are so good in the kitchen. I do not want to take from them with a busy backsplash. Thx.

Houzz most likely has a discussion thread on this.

Don't go with a white-white tile. Try something that is off white, it will make your white kitchen and countertops pop rather than wash everything out or bring out undertones you don't want to see in your cabinet paint color.

Visit a couple of tile shops, hardware centers. This sound like a field trip to Floor and Decor with a painted door or large paint sample to put up against the tile, also the wall paint.

Same for the PP with the need to keep the tile simple, one neutral color to show off the other aspects of your kitchen.

The paint choice should come last because there are more options for paint than there are for tile.

Avoid white grout!!!! That's the biggest issue. We just left one kitchen with White Dove cabs (semi gloss), White Dove walls (matte), bright white tile and and white grout and it was TERRIBLE (at least from the my anal-retentive/hyper-focused on details point of view....). You will not get an exact match between these varying materials.

Now we have a light grey grout against White Dove and we got a slightly off-white tile and its SO MUCH BETTER. The tile showroom had 3 shades of white subway: bright white, this middle one, and then antique? or bone? cream? I don't remember what they called it, but it was too yellow for White Dove.

We went to several tile stores and bought a few different options. Then we put the tile on the counter (standing up... leaned against the wall) and picked the one we thought worked best. THEN we made up sample boards using 3 different kinds of grout. I know that all sounds super nitpicky and intense but I'm very aware of the undertone issue and I wanted to avoid a problem.

We did American Clean "starting line" white subway with maipei frost grout (a very light gray) and it looks great with our cabinets and counters.

sorry, I should clarify that our cabinets and walls aren't white dove. But I think the above method is solid and should work for whatever colors you have going on. It's worth investing a little time up front to get the look you want!

Hi
Are you all still happy with White Dove in 2022. I was torn between that ans Shirwin Williams Pure White.
Thoughts?

I bought a little sample container (flat finish) and kept seeing yellow.

There’s an SF company called Fireclay Tile that makes handmade subway tiles in great colors. We just used for our kitchen remodel and I think they have a warm white that would look good with White Dove (our cabinets are Simply White so we went with the slightly brighter white option they offer).

You'll have to check it in your light. Whites change a lot in different lights. If you are looking at higher-end tiles, you can get sample chips from Modwalls, and they have a lot of different shades of white. They mail them out very quickly and don't charge much. You can also go to Floor and Decor and pick up individual tiles and bring them home, and then return the ones that don't work.

I can offer that I have Fireclay samples in Tusk, Feldspar, Gardenia, and Ivory. Ivory is definitely a beige and not a white, way darker than White Dove. Gardenia is greenish, and Feldspar looks pink. Tusk may work with White Dove - I have Chantilly Lace on my trim, and the Tusk tiles are not as bright as they are, and White Dove is a little less bright than Chantilly Lace.
