Subway tile that perfectly matches Benjamin Moore White Dove

Anonymous
We are about to have our kitchen cabinets painted with BM White Dove. Does anyone have any suggestions for subway tile that is a near match for this color? TIA!

White.

Any true white will work fine with BM White Dove (love that shade of white!). You need to get samples and be sure there are no yellow tones in the tile.

You don't want a perfect match. agree with PP that said to make sure the undertones are similar.

The cheap sources:
Home Depot
Lowes
Floor and Decor
Tile Shop

They all have them, just in slightly different whites.

White Dove actually does have a tiny bit of a yellow undertone. That's not bad - I have white dove in several parts of my house. It will look beautiful on cabinets! But true white tile will look very icy next to it. Don't do the festival white ice subway tile from Flor and Decor, for example, because you the tile will look MUCH whiter than the cabinets. TBH, I think the in stock subway tile at Home Depot will probably match White Dove very well. Go to Home Depot and get a few tiles and paint a swatch of white dove to compare.

FWIW, I wouldn't focus too much on a perfect match. But, stay away from true white tile.

Floor and Decor's Festival White Ice Subway tile is VERY white and will not match. We just did a bathroom with this tile and that's how I know. I had to get SW extra white (VERY white) paint to match the tile. Even BM Super White, which is whiter than White Dove, looked creamy next to that tile.

Yes bright white. You'd have to look through dozens, if not hundreds, of samples to find an exact match of the white with gray undertones.

White Dove is a distinctive white, does have grey tones but also a touch of yellow. Will depend on the light in your space. In my house the grey tones predominate but it is still a little softer than a bright or true white.

As others have said, get tile samples and compare in the space.

^^ no yellow tones discernible but maybe that's part of what makes the white appear a little bit softer?

OP here...thanks for the advice!

Our countertop is a dark, busy granite. Unfortunately, it is not in the budget to replace it at this time. I do not want the backsplash to compete or clash with the granite. I am going for a look like this

I am afraid to make this mistake...the tile shade is off from the cabinets.

That mistake is an undertone problem. The tiles are too cool/true white for the cabinets, which are a more creamy white. I would probably get a e-consultation with Maria Killam (google her). She's very good at undertones. Agree with other posters that you don't need an exact match, you need a coordinated pick. I would buy tile samples and take them home and compare. Don't try to do the comparison in the store with a paint swatch, the lighting matters too much.

With BM White Dove you are definitely going to have to be careful with undertones. You won't want a tile that is too icy OR too creamy. Samples viewed in the space will be key.

BM is also a color that shifts depending on the light in your space. Agree with everyone that says on-site samples will be necessary.

You could also ask at a good tile shop - White Dove is a VERY popular choice (I have it on all my trim in two houses) so it’s possible they will have suggestions.

We have White Dove throughout our kitchen/dining area and we chose the white subway tiles from Home Depot. Seven years later, still looks great, and we plan to repaint White Dove to freshen it up again this year.
