Are you looking for a specialized private school like Montessori? Or a public DC school? The latter you will need a DC address and to lottery into. And the deadline passed. BUT private schools are sending out contract now and until they are full and many have rolling admissions if they aren’t currently full. So personally I’d decide between school and daycare, hours you need, and location.
People use the terms interchangeably because in many cases they are. Many "daycares" have preschool programs that are no different than what they have at a stand alone preschool. The only difference is there will also be infants and toddlers in the building. You will have more options that are full day if you look at preschool programs in daycares.
