An orthodontic practice that only does Invisalign

Multiple orthodontists we know of charge exactly the same for traditional braces as Invisalign. And if kid starts with Invisalign but it doesn’t work out (because kid doesn’t put them back in after eating or whatever), orthodontist puts on traditional braces at no additional cost.

Ok, well they (over)charged me exactly the same 5 and 7 years ago when they charged almost the same price for traditional braces then (back before they offered Invisalign kids) as they did for kid #3.

As an adult who has had Invisalign I would say that they won't give you the canker sores in the mouth that some traditional braces do, because there isn't anything sharp.

I have one in regular braces and one in Invisalign. Same cost. What isn’t the same is my regular dentist recommended the child with Invisalign get his teeth cleaned every quarter vs every six months. Kids get more tooth decay with Invisalign. One had to wear Invisalign because of the slant of his teeth. To me Invisalign vs. regular braces is six of one or a half dozen of another.

Invisalign was recommended for my daughter. She was terrible about brushing well so we liked that she could brush and floss normally with Invisalign. We never needed extra cleanings. The other advantage was that we didn’t have to worry about her being compliant with food restrictions. During the few months she was in phase 1 braces she broke the wires. My son now has Invisalign too. He’s been told to rinse his mouth with water before putting the liners back in if he can’t brush. No cavities.

Invisalign also requires less appointments and there’s less discomfort.

I can see doing traditional braces if a problem can only be fixed with wires and brackets. I can also see that it’s not a good option for kids who won’t be compliant with wearing the liners since they could pop them out and keep them out for longer than the recommended time. But Invisalign’s benefits are clear to me.

I used Dr Contract in Farragut. It was a good Invisalign/traditional braces hybrid with buttons and bands. It took almost 2 years but my teeth are fantastic.

We went in network for insurance coverage, and doing that makes traditional braces less expensive. The out of network orthodontists charging the same prices for regular or Invisalign were more expensive overall.

But they are using traditional braces for phase 1. So this practice is already doing a hybrid.

OP here. Phase 1 was expander/retainer only, not the regular braces. This practice does not do regular braces. Since people are writing that there are some conditions that regular braces are better at, I am concerned, and will probably go get a second opinion before starting phase 2 on which is better (regular or invisalign). Having said that, I am relieved to hear that Inivisalign is not that much more expensive than regular braces nowadays.

I dont' know that this is the case anymore. Our DD's Invisilign was not significantly more expensive at all.
