What's wrong with GPS tracking? I use it all the time on my high school student. I check to see if he's on his way home (long commute from school), so I can plan dinner. Eliminates need to call or text him asking when he will be home. Our who family tracks each other for various purposes.

Grading websites...I also can see my son's grades. I am paying $40K to send him to a high school, so I think I have every right to see his grades.

You hands off parents are just lazy.

Do you change dinner time for the family based on when he's going to get home? Do you have other children?

Yes, actually we do. We like to eat together as a family. And yes, I have one other younger child who is way more flexible. My HS DS is the busiest kid in our family including my DH who works is a partner in a major law firm. DS commutes one hour to school and has many ECs. We try to make his life easy because he works so hard. Call it helicoptering or whatever you want. We call it LOVE.

Also, eliminates his need to call or text you? You mean it eliminates his need to be a considerate human being? He will make a great husband someday. LOL

Sorry, but I don't want my kid texting or calling me while driving. And just because we embrace technology does not make us helicopter people. But you go ahead and do you. We're good. And DS is going to a top 10. Yay!!

In other news, seems that "helicopter" parenting is essential and is only helping kids succeed in our competitive world. Although I will add that the examples in this article do not constitute what I would describe as helicoptering.

You may know that when you’re paying $70,000 a year for college you’ll have no right to see his grades (unless he gives you that right).

We will cross that bridge when we come to it, but thinking at least for freshman year to have access to grades and then if all goes well, relinquish that access if he wants us to. But I don't think he really cares.

I hope that if campus or local police find her, they get her some help if it turns out she's got mental issues.

Same. What college kid wouldn't be completely MORTIFIED to find out his mother was doing that? She must have lost touch with reality to think ANY girl would be into a guy whose mom was that involved.

NP with kid heading off to college .... Of course I will have access to his grades, etc.. Unless he wants to pay his own way through college (like I did) he will give me access.

Am I the only one who thinks this is overkill on the part of the police and the University to go after this mom? Sure, it's weird, and she shouldn't be doing it, but does it really merit a campus wide bulletin with her picture, newspaper articles, and police involvement. And that notoriety will harm the student whose mom it is much more than the mom's limited inquiries. Everyone in this situation needs to back off, not just the mom.

I felt really sad when I read this story.

A "bitch" is someone who sleeps with everyone except you. OP, are you just jealous that this lady approached everyone with his son's picture except you?

One day he’ll expect that much LOVE from some unfortunate woman who’s agreed to be his wife.
