Whoever wrote about the gender ratio had a child at least several years older. The new application process (i.e. universal screening/default testing of eligible students for all programs) should reduce this disparity. I have a 5th grade boy who loves and excels at both humanities and math. He has never complained to me about perceived gender issues related to reading or writing curriculum. PP, perhaps it is the particular teacher(s) at your child's school.
