Hs Magnet results?

Does anyone know whether MCPS is going to consider cohorts in the high school admissions process?

There was no mention of cohorts or any change in the selection process, except for the new cogat test, at any of the HS open house meetings.

Applications for at least some of the programs (CAP, Wheaton) we’re still being handled by the programs themselves and not central office, which suggests to me that program directors and teachers are still selecting the students.

But who knows...

Yes, my Blair magnet kid said the magnet teachers were working on admissions, so it is not a crap shoot.

Special programs tweeted this morning that “results are in home or on their way”

I don't think that means anything.

Congrats! I thought they might be sending out yesterday even though they said 2/4. I seem to recall something similar last year. Good luck to all!

Seems like the cohort issue is less on the hs level since they all offer AP classes and dual enrollment at MC.

Results will only come in the mail, right? Not electronically by email or in the portal?

As far as I know, only mail.

Do you know the teachers? I do. I stand by what I said. If they are a part of decisions, they're not a crap shoot.

I know some teachers at a magnet who were still part of the selection committee. They said the thing that was different this year was that all of the data came from central office and was fully de-identified. (As opposed to applications going directly to schools and organized there in folders for review.)

Do you know if they used the SAME criteria as previous years?

Your teacher friends must work at RMIB or one of the SMACSs. This year those applications were online so it makes sense that the data would come from central office. Other programs still handled their own apps. I’ve always been under the impression that all magnet apps from HGC thru HS were “de-identified” for the selection committees.

If a student applied to more than one magnet, do they receive multiple letters or are all decisions indicated in one letter?
