| You may have to pay your regular car deductible. We had a friend's unlicensed teenager back into our rental car and we had to pay that (and our friend reimbursed us but was really slimy about it) |
UGH. Wish that idiot had never hit my original car to begin with - if I’d never had the rental car this shit never would’ve happened. |
It does suck, OP. I feel for you. The whole thing sounds frustrating. I’m sorry. |
Thank you...it is frustrating because this damage is so minor I never would’ve fixed it on my own car (had a similar incident to my own car a few months back, but that driver essentially hit me and ran away). I have a $500 deductible but not sure if the repair will even be that much. |
| We had a stone hit our rental car windshield, leaving a small pea sized crack. $550 to repair!?! Ridiculous. |
| Did you buy their insurance when you rented the car? |
| Honestly, every rental car I’ve ever used—even newer ones—have horrible bumper cosmetic damage because of suitcases, etc. A 1”x2” paint rub? I honestly don’t think I’d mention it. I mean, if they mentioned it upon return inspection, I would pay what I owed. But I don’t think I’d bring it up. |
Do you teach your kids this too? Shame on you. |
It’s the rental companies responsibility to hire competent people. If they don’t notice it, it must not be that big a deal. You should expect some wear and tear on a car that’s shuffled around like that. I can tell you they aren’t fixing these issues. We rented a luxury car that had paint job damage. But no, I don’t teach my kids this. |
| fwiw I don't see the ethics the same way with a rental car as with damaging a stranger's car. Bring it back, see what happens. |
|
I wouldn't even bring it up.
But get a better credit card that covers this kind of stuff in the future. |
|
Everyone should check with their insurance on whether they need to purchase the additional rental insurance through the rental company or not.
Mine (Nationwide) said that I never need to because I carry full coverage which covers me in any car I'm driving. Also, read the fine print in the loss damage waiver. My coworker totaled a rental car in November while traveling back from the NC area and even though she purchased the extra insurance and all that jazz through the rental agency, she was responsible for getting the totaled car transported from NC to the Dulles airport rental location, which cost her $1500 in towing fees. |
I teach my kids not to be a sucker. No one looks out for you in life except you. |
|
By any chance was it Enterprise? They have a forgiveness policy for superficial damage to the front & rear bumpers. I scratched an Enterprise rental once and they didn't charge me for it.
Also, check whether your credit card offers rental car damage protection. If they do, they'll reimburse you for your deductible. |
It was indeed enterprise! |
