Beadboard in bathrooms - still "in"?

I thought that was called wainscoting. Is it the same thing?

Wainscoting is the name of the moulding that covers the bottom part of walls. Beaded board is the style of wainscoting with the narrow vertical panels and thin round vertical bead.

All those lines and edges accumulate dust and debris like nobody's business. I would not install it again but look for something equally in tune with the house's age and style of the bathroom that's much easier to keep clean.

This is a really good point. What about using classic tile halfway up the wall, maybe white with a black trim. That would go well with the age of the home.

OP here - tiling would be cost prohibitive and I'm not sure I'd like it. I like the idea of board and batten instead of beadboard. We'll see how much the contractor will charge...

I don’t find my headboard difficult to clean, but again it’s in the hallway, not the bathroom.

I love this look. We just re-did our 1/2 bath and have in there and LOVE it.
