| Sorry for the double post. |
| Yeah, no one says "Here please hold my weed for me" to another teen. Nope! |
|
No illegal drugs in our house. It is illegal on a federal level, and my children cannot legally possess it on a state level.
My kids know all about civil forfeiture and the schizophrenia risks. My stance is never in our home or on our property, and if they want to somewhere else, where it's legal, they should wait until they are at least 25 and the brain has finished maturing. I would approach this very seriously. But my kids also have been hearing about civil forfeiture since they were tiny, because it's one of our big political issues. I'm not sure how I'd approach it if this came out of the blue and I had no groundwork laid with my kids. |
| The effect on his brain and mental illness are what worry me the most. I am convinced that the men, uncles and father, in my family suffered from undiagnosed mental illnesses. He has his annual doctor appt this week. Would you tell the doc and ask her to speak to him about the negative effects? |
Sure. Our pedi mentions age-related risks at every well visit. |
Legal issues aside, an adult using weed and a kid using weed are completely different thing, especially with the potent weed on the market today. The effect on his brain would be my biggest concern. How to get him to see that? So much harder! Good luck! |
| I’d go the heart to heart route. I would then require that he write you a 5 paragraph paper about the impact of weed on a 15 year old brain. Explain that this is not punishment but that you are requiring that he do it so that he understands the impact of his decision. Set a deadline and take is phone until he completes the paper if he misses the deadline. Big picture- when is he doing this? My 15 yr old does not have much time to get high. She is very busy wth a sport, a job and demanding school schedule. I’d get him engaged in other activities and fill up his schedule if he has too much down time. Talk to him about pursuing other interests and if he has none, you’ll have to cut off his money until he gets a job (bonus he wont have money buy weed with). |
I used an insane amount of weed in my early teens as did my friends. I'm local and still know anton of people from.high school. I dont know an single schizophrenic. Actually, I take that back. My friends mom is schizophrenic. |
The plural of anecdote is not "data." Read the research. It's not a risk I support my children taking. It's not a risk I will allow in my home. It is not something I would treat casually or ignore. |
I know 3 people who are. |
| These responses seem way to lax for a 15 y/o boy who is likelybkist in the 10th grade. If you found multiple baggies and a pill bottle this is not experimentation. |
Agree. It’s truly unbelievable the lack of actual discipline and parenting that’s described. “Sure Larlo it’s totally fine to use illegal drugs” |
| His life as he knows it would STOP. This is an illegal substance and I am the adult in the house. Child lives in YOUR house and drives YOUR car. Nope. I would also drug test regularly. My house my rules. |
| This kid thinks so little of his parents he is not even bothering to hide his habits. |
Yes.... this is far more than a toke at a party every now and then. This kid is seriously on the road to stonerhood. And it will likely mess up his academics if it's not halted now. |
