Food for thought. My mom always did this. The thing is, I didn't realize it until I hit my 40s, but instead internalized it. Not healthy. Got clearer eyed thanks to some good friends and a therapist. |

Sometimes people throw digs to get attention, start an argument, stay stuck, or stay sad. I bet your mom does this to other people too.
Just be aware that confronting her on it directly also might go really bad. It may result in her having a temper tantrum or even crying. It may even give her a reason to find another available person to listen to her “daughter” woes. Some people want others to feel sorry for them. It’s all in her head. Ignore her. Even try mismatching her affect when she throws shade! For example , responding to the dig with dismissive laughter “Oh you’re so silly/dramatic/ mom!” Then cutting her off with something to redirect or end the conversation like the dig was completely insignificant. She’s button pushing. Maybe for attention. Just keep in mind that sometimes we inherit our parents personality traits as we get older... self aware is self care
