Don't see Mary Queen of Scots

Reign was basically “Barbie, Queen of scots”

I actually liked the actress who played Mary on Reign. She was charming. The show itself was insane - I stopped watching somewhere in the middle

To be fair, some periods of history had more going on than other times, and also had more of an effect, for varying reasons, on what was to follow. So some periods will tend to get more attention from historians and storytellers than others.

The problem stems more from the fact that Hollywood is so Euro-centric. There are lots of periods in history in other continents that had effects on what followed. Hollywood just pretends those places didn't exist.

The Favourite was awful! Trying waaaay too hard to be edgy.

And yet it was still leaps and bounds better than Mary Queen of Scots

I was really looking forward to The Favourite and it looked quite funny from the preview. But I agree with the first poster here. There were some comedic moments but just odd, dull and annoying otherwise. And that soundtrack. I wanted to put my hands over my ears.

I liked Mary Queen of Scots better than The Favourite. I see almost every movie that comes out. I thought the acting in Mary Queens was much better

Thank you - it was on my list but I'll wait for it to come out on demand at home.

It's not just Euro-centric, they act like only France and England had royals who were remotely interesting or worth depicting.

Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor, Archduke of Austria and King of Hungary and Bohemia
Queen Christina of Sweden
Tsar Peter I
King Ludwig II of Bavaria
Friederich II of Prussia

We haven't even touched on the non-Europeans!

False, clearly "Mary, Teen of Scots."

I would not be mad if they remade Reign but porn-adjacent with more murders and smoke machines a la Riverdale.

Just saw "The Favourite" tonight and agree that it was not as promote--ads and some reviews made it out to be a wicked comedy and it wasn't at all. I can get into odd filmmaking yet this still just left me very ambivalent; the three leads were all great but I'm not sure what they were great in service of, if you know what I mean. I rarely ever feel any film is too long and I felt this one was. As someone who loves historical drama (and who thinks that embellishing the history is just fine)....I'm still figuring out why this just didn't work for me.
