Johns Hopkins CTY program

We don't know which class to choose. Does anybody know anything about the classes for Stanford?

Our choices are "Elements of Drama", "Heroes and Villains" (writing classes), and "The Renaissance". If anybody has any suggestions please tell us.

The literature we got from CTY recommended having your child read the descriptions and pick the one they preferred. It was better to pick a topic they are excited about. I was surprised because my kid picked a topic I would have never thought would appeal to her, but she is very excited about it.

They also suggested listing several in order, because you may not get your first choice.

Our son saw the catalog and begged to go. I am so thankful for this program. If your child qualifies and wants to go - chances are it will be a wonderful and memorable experience. If your child is not psyched about spending 7 hours each day at an academic summer program - I'd think twice - both for your child and the other kids that want to be with those that truly want to be there (that comment is not meant to be snotty - but I have had it with complaining negative kids in activities - they bring down the enthusiasm level and really shouldn't be there).

What about children who are going into 1st grade, and not old enough for the CTY program? Can anyone make any recommendations as to where they can go for summer enrichment?

DC is in CTY, and honestly we're torn. The programs look great, but they're so expensive. There are other enrichment opportunities that are much cheaper, and will also expose DC to talented and driven kids.
