Is your DD a recruited athlete at Penn?

Are you the one who has been posting all fall about HYP orchestras? Glad it worked out for your daughter.

Was checking one ivy's insta because my kid is interested in it and it was all athletes (some kid was a hammer thrower), legacies (some girl had a comment on her insta saying the family legacy continues), and URM or programs like Questbridge (posted got a full ride to an ivy peeps). Not fair to ordinary high achieving kids.

get over it

Don't worry we will MAGA. Trump Justice Department. Hang in there. After we go after affirmative action, we will go after colleges for antitrust for fixing their tuition. #newdayinamerica

Leave enough time for cleaning the coal.

Yes she is and yes I am sure her athlete status helped her. Kids from her school with a similar profile sometimes get in to Ivies but by no means for sure. She took ACT twice both times doing worst in math (her best school subject); she could have prepped more and tried again but the coach told her she was ok.

To the other poster, thank you for the congratulations. She is over the moon and I am glad its all settled.

Recruited athletes w coach support get in. My DC w 35 ACT at top private did not while 2 kids with legacies all the way back to grandparents and major donors(about $2m plus yearly) did. This is how the dice rolls.

You can’t apply early to all those schools.

This is true. Princeton, for example, is SCEA, so you can apply only to Princeton and public institutions - no other privates.

There's no real bar.

Of course, you can only go to one!

This athlete thing at Ivy's and other top schools is very frustrating. I'm happy for the girl who is an athlete and got into Penn, but my DS had very similar stats (actually higher test scores) and is well rounded with strong extracurriculars in music and sports (just not a top athlete) plus is a legacy. You would think that schools care more about well rounded, bright students than whether or not you are a top athlete. Sorry, guess it's sour grapes, but Ivy's don't even give athletic scholarships, though they clearly they find a way to make it work for athletes who they want to recruit.
