Private & Independent Schools
| our DC scored ~140 with evenly balanced subtests and is at Sheridan. |
| The original poster asked a specfic question, got no answer, instead prattling babble about her motives from an individual with no knowledge of log scales or percentiles, professing to have spawned an Ivy matriculant! |
| I didn't "spawn" anything you fool -- I delivered a beautiful child -- who is at the top Ivy thanks to her athletic ability |
|
Let's hope she graduates ( ... on time!)
Congratulations, that was carthartic. I hope you feel better now. |
| jealous much? Public School graduate |
God, there are some serious nuts on this board. Get a grip, lady. We are trying to HELP this poster by pointing out that she's making a big mistake if she thinks there's only a few schools where her smart kid will thrive. My kid scored 99.9 the first year he took the test, 99.7 his second. But we chose his school based on his personality, not on how many other kids there are that have similar test scores. |
| Thank you! I'm one of the earlier posters trying to make a similar point. Why would anyone put 100% stock in only 1 admissions factor -- the test score? |
| I scored a 99.9 when I was a kid (seriously!). Look at what happened to me. Im a corporate lawyer. Fun. |
| PP corp lawyer -- some of these crazies will want to know if you went to a private school in the DC area? |
| I am almost hesitant to reply because the school my child is at seems to bring out a lot of hostility on these forums but to answer op - my child scored close to 99.9% and is thriving at Beauvoir. |
There is nothing in the OP's question to suggest that she thinks there are only a few schools where her child would thrive. If people simply told OP where their 99.9% children were thriving instead of giving her unsolicited advice, she likely would learn that they thrive in many different types of environments and at multiple schools. I presume the OP asked this question because there are many posts about schools where 99.9% are not thriving (e.g., DC public schools), but few about positive experiences. Since you are exactly the type of person that OP is asking about, why not just tell her where your child goes to school (assuming, of course, s/he is thriving there)? Clearly she believes that information would be valuable to her, which, of course, is what matters. |
| Someone asked a similar question earlier this year and the responses included a range of schools. I can't find it, I can't recall the key words in the subject header. |
| I have 2 DC with 99.9 WPPSI scores. They are @ GDS + doing quite well. Regardess of PPs' comments, a 99.9 score is just one day in the child's life. The child may very well take the test again + score 98, 96, or, gasp, sub-90. I was elated for a day after getting first DC's 99.9 score, but quickly fell back to earth after reading the lit. While they may end up as "extraordinarily" gifted as opposed to merely "highly," we really liked GDS' early focus on socialization as those skills can be so much more difficult to master as children age + behaviours become entrenched. What does 99.9 matter if your DC is miserable + socially inept? |
Below are some threads where similar issues were discussed. None are terribly helpful though. FWIW, my 99.9 WPPSI kid is thriving at Sidwell, and I think it's a great place. I agree with some of the PPs who said that there are many great schools in the area that your child would enjoy. Visit lots of them. I know it's tough to figure out the right answer. Good luck with the process. http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/18243.page http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/30453.page http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/34027.page http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/11489.page |
| We have DC also at GDS with 99.9 and is very happy there. Not sure there is a lot of differentiation happening yet but its still early in the school year. Not sure it matters since DC is thriving and clearly thrilled to be at school. |
