I adopted internationally via the Barker Foundation and agree that they are not warm and fuzzy. As a previous poster indicated, they got the job done. But AFTER I adopted (I'm a single mother by choice), they had a ton of programs and resources and I can call anytime and talk to people who know. They're a large agency and will be around for awhile, y'know (60 years old, I think) and that matters if you think you or your child will need to access the people or the paperwork.
So, if you use Barker, get an outside support system during the paperwork process. It's just paperwork--annoyingly bureaucratic, but a lot easier than injecting yourself with chemicals, which I also did for a year, trying to become pregnant. (Why, why).
But after you have an actual child around, I can strongly recommend Barker.
I have also heard great things about Adoptions Together and other agencies. Best of luck. Adopting a child was/is the most wonderful thing I've ever done, and I was very skeptical about adopting (I thought the child would feel like a houseguest).
