Hey Asshole, Round II

I think people assume that. When I am driving my BMW and put on my turn signal to change lanes people will immediately speed up to close the gap so I can't get over. If I am in my Honda I am way more likely to be able to move over. So I actually have to drive more aggressively in my BMW or I'd be stuck on the highway forever. Crazy.

As to the OP - I dont think you were an a'hole.

You're imagining things (like, that everyone notices your BMW). People speed up whenever drivers in ANY car turn on their signal.

If you were driving a Camry or an Accord, you were not an asshole. If you were driving a Subaru, especially an Outback, then the pedestrian was an asshole.

Normally, I would follow your approach and yield to those in or near the crosswalk, but try to get by at the first opening.

Very funny!

not an asshole and nothing wrong with SUVs. How are you supposed to tow your boat????

BMWs are horrible though.

I don't think you were an a*hole, OP. Certainly not to the cars behind you, who were probably glad that a car finally got to go!

I have this problem at Vienna metro. Every morning (and many evenings) there'll be a huge backup of cars trying to get to/from parking because pedestrians have the right of way to cross the main street into the metro complex and the pedestrian flow is CONSTANT. it seems crazy to me that each and every pedestrian can walk by themselves - as soon as one crosses, it seems another one is ready to cross (in 4 directions) - to the point that sometimes the cars will back up for blocks onto Nutley St. There've been mornings that I've waited 10 minutes just to get through that one stop sign. I feel like in this situation, a walk signal would be helpful - the pedestrians might have to wait a minute or two, but then they could all cross at once, and it would reduce the wait time for cars.

Maybe that makes me an ahole? But I like to think I'm just efficient.

Aw, my coworker's got a slightly older model BMW. He's so NOT an asshole. But maybe he's the exception that proves the rule.

Jeez. So what "are" you supposed to do when you get called an asshole in front of your kids? How trashy is that? Ugh. Hasn't happened to me yet, but I suppose it's only a matter of time. Of course I'm sure it won't be deserved.

HSM = Hot sexy mama? Something like that?

Yes, something like that. I hesitate to say what it is, however, because there are so many DCUMers out there that I don't want to be honked off the Beltway or suddenly have legions of Washingtonians screaming "Hey Asshole" at me.

Very funny! And you know it would happen!!

Personally, I don't think you were in the wrong on this one. The real asshole is the person who cursed you out in front of your child. Ouch. That's really a bad move!

I'd suggest that all of you insulting good cars that you can't afford are the assholes.

Oh, I should have signed that post above - owner of BMW.

Yes, everyone does speed up because god forbid you allow someone to change lanes, but in a Honda I get occasional people who will let me in, in a BMW that NEVER happens.

What makes you think I can't afford a BMW? I own cars worth more than the top BMW model and make over half mil a year. Let me guess though - you are a BMW driver?

Seriously tho - I actually know and like a bunch of people who drive BMWs....my theory really has lots of exceptions. But generally, I do think that drivers of BMWs are disproportionately represented at the asshole level.

The size of the asshole is is directly related to how far the asshole in question is from you:

- someone next to you is an <asshole> (whispered);

- someone 20 feet away is an asshole (normal voice);

- someone across the street is an ASSHOLE; and

- someone in another car (windows up) is an ASSHOLE!!!

I'd love to take credit for the theory, but the late, great George Carlin originated it.

Oh my god - really? You own "cars" worth more than the "top BMW model"? I'm calling BS on that one. And I am also proposing a new theory: an asshole is a person who comes on an anonymous website, insults an entire class of car owners (which are represented disproportionately in the DC area; it's not as if BMWs, Mercedes, etc. are "special" cars in this area) and announces that he or she makes soooo much money that he or she drives a car even more expensive than the "top" model (which I seriously doubt, and anyone familiar with the car would never refer to it as the "top BMW model," by the way). You, sir or ma'am, are truly an asshole.

I am so sick of this website - I'm off to waste my time on better things.

Whew, thank goodness.

No, no, no. You have it all wrong. There is nothing wrong with any car driver if they have manners and at least pretend to extend some degree of congeniality.

Where there is a disproportionate number is the number of ASSHOLES in this area. It really has nothing to do with what they drive.

Though I give you points for puss-face (not a compliment) expressions of drivers fo certain cars here. Does that face (or a case of lemons) come with the registration? Holy crap!
