I love this idea OP. Do it!

My great aunt always wanted to visit Alaska, so I took her on a trip there when she was 89. We flew through Seattle, and on the return trip we had to spend the night there.

We stayed in a Doubletree hotel. For some reason, she LOVED that hotel. That night was the only part of the trip she ever talked about, right up until the day she died. I could have saved a lot of money if I'd know that in advance.

YOLO BRO OP! Go for it. What a nice idea and nice daughter you are.

For those who say it is cheap, the shower head is cheap, but moving the pipes from the wall to the ceiling is not so cheap. OP did say her mother wanted an overhead rain shower. Those are usually in the center of the ceiling rather than hanging from the wall.

You don't need to move the plumbing. The kits like the one on Amazon that someone linked above are equipped with an adjustable arm that positions the showerhead over your head.

This. If your pipe is high enough you can just install it. We did. No pipes moved.

Installing the rainfall shower head isn't hard to do. My 15 year old son found one unopened in a box at a yard sale, and installed it in the jack and jill bathroom he shares with his sister. He seems to have inherited diy skills genetically somehow or the other from my father, who can pretty much do anything.

You are a good daughter.

OP here, thanks!

I might try this, but I anticipate something going wrong.

Hilton by Dulles, Hilton Washington Dulles Airport. The hallways are long though so if she moves slow, maybe ask for a room closer to elevator.

She used to tell me how she always wanted an overhead rainfall shower head. It reminded her of her childhood bathroom. To this date, when she sees one in a catalogue, she points at it.
We can not go to the expense of putting one in our house. However, several hotels in the area have them. I am thinking of booking a night in one of the downtown hotels with such a shower head. We could all go down and have fun spending a night downtown.
I know that this sound ridiculous, but I think that I will have lingering guilt if I don't fulfill her wish.
Am I being nutty? I have some guilt about not taking better care of another elderly family member who passed away.

I just want to say I don't think this sounds ridiculous at all. I lost my mom last year and I would give absolutely anything to be able to take her to a hotel with a rainfall shower head. Do it. You'll never regret it.

It sounds like a nice thing to do and will probably bring a lot of joy. I LOVE rain shower heads too and my favorite day spa has them. I bought a $12 rain showered from Marshalls a year or so ago and love it...maybe not quite as much as the one at the day spa, but still worth it...and that's even considering I installed it myself and didn't' do a great job so it leaks half the water out. Still a fantastic shower and so much better than I had before. Don't be afraid to try to replace yours!
