OP here: I do not in any way view him as weak. Part of the reason it has taken me so long to come around to this is that I didn't believe he could actually be interested, because, from my perspective, he's a lot more conventionally hot than I am, and has a lot of options, so it didn't occur to me that he could still be hoping for something with me. But, then it occurred to me that it's not normal for a man to treat you like a girlfriend when you are clearly not giving all the girlfriend benefits, IYKWIM.
