I was just looking at this. We spend about $90k a year, but $25k of that is child care. So close to what you are at without the child care and our HHI is the same. This is DC.

No kids just yet, will be having them soon though

Why would you include 401k and 529 in spending? Those are savings

Property /car tax = $15k
Utilities = $10k
Cellphones=$3k
Food= $10k
Vacation =$10k
Insurance - Life/auto = $8k
Entertainment = $3k

Only 10k on vacation? With 4?

We spend $50K a year. About $10K is unreimbursed medical expenses.

HHI $80K

Are we talking about necessities rather than vacations, eating out, etc?

To live:
Mortgage - $42k
Property tax - $4k
Utilities/phones/internet - $12k
Food - $6k
Car - $6k
Insurance - $9k
Childcare - $0 (thanks mom!)

To live happily:
another $4-5k on food
$10k vacations
$6k entertainment
$12k throw-money-at-it problem solving

So just about $80k to keep us going; another $33k in "we should definitely be more frugal" spending. HHI $400k.

$34,000 mortgage, tax, insurance
$1,000 cable electric gas water (we have solar)
$2,600 vehicles and bicycle related costs incl gas
$1,200 mobile phone service and device costs average
$8,500 food and local dining
$12,000 travel (some years we spend this much others it’s closer to half)
$200 medical (military and healthy)
$6,000 home improvement projects and repairs
$2,500 fitness activities
$6,000 clothing, necessities, misc wants

Around $75,000 total. DC DINKs with $300K HHI from military and government pay, after adding in value of tax free income and retirement benefits. Trying to find balance between irrational frugality and saving for early retirement.

This year I’m on track to have spent about $86k in expenses (not counting anything withheld from my paycheck). Of that $36k is mortgage related and $25k is childcare related.

Single parent, gross income is $137k and another ~$20k in child support.
