UVA Engineering vs VT

If DC is solidly planning to get an engineering degree no matter what their GPA in HS or college turns out to be, think VT.

If DC is interested in engineering but is liable to change their major if engineering seems "hard" or they "love" engineering economics, think UVa.

The engineering programs are similar. Yeah, there will be some on here who insist VT is "better" but a degree with slightly less rigorous Eng classes and slightly more rigorous distribution classes is really a wash.

Thanks ABET accreditation.

Great assessment. I didn't think about ABET accreditation being a factor.

If your child has any doubt, and gets into both, definitely go to UVA. The UVA engineering program is tough and DD decided after year one that maybe engineering wasn't her life ambition after all. She had gotten into "better" tech schools than Va Tech so that was never a question, but she's very glad that she didn't wind up at an intense tech school with interests in the liberal arts. And Tech does weed out the first year.
