We have a split foyer. My only real complaint is that the formal living room (the ground level where you enter) is totally underutilized space. If someone played the piano or something, that would be a great spot.

The lot is sloped, so our kitchen/family room opens to a big back deck.

Would I have chosen that layout if I could afford whatever I wanted? No.

It was a trade off between commute, schools, and price. And we had lived overseas in gov't-provided housing for many years. I'm used to making do with conditions that aren't ideal.
