Of Ford Escape, Honda CRV, Toyota Rav 4 or Honda Santa Fe

Fords have only given me grief.

I now only purchase Japanese.

My mom (2013) and I (2017) preferred the crv over the others. I definitely prefer the newer crv to my moms 2013 but it’s sttill a good car.

THat means you are in a win-win situation. You can’t go wrong with either.

We are debating between the CRV and the Escape. I was considering the RAV4 but it has lower ground clearance than the other two and we need to be able to drive the vehicle through some ponding on the road.

If you just test drive both I bet you will decide easily. For example, I felt far more comfortable in the RAV coming from a sedan, but DH thinks it feels like a marshmallow (ie too light) on the road and the CRV felt more “solid.”

I bought a 2018 Ford Escape and I love it! I got the Titanium trim and safety features and the thing is fully loaded and it was really affordable. It handles great. It has a lot of space.

I had a 2014 Ford Escape Titanium (used) for exactly one year before I couldn't stand it any longer and traded it in for a 2017 CRV. The CRV is significantly more comfortable than the Escape and the interior is so much quieter. The safety feature and mpg is much better in the CRV too. I was getting about 17-22 mpg in my Escape and I'm now getting 24-30 in my CRV. Plus with it being a Honda I am fully expecting this car to go 150,000+ miles. I also really liked how the CRV is bigger than the Escape. It just feels safer all around. I also went from the top trim level in the Escape to the second lowest in the CRV and really only gave up 2 features that I actually used (automatic lift gate and seat memory).

Overall I am incredibly happy with my choice to get the CRV.

Other suggestions welcome.

Subaru Forester should be added to the mix. Similar size and features to the models listed in your title. We love ours, would buy another in a heartbeat.

The CVT (transmission) in the Subaru is garbage. Failure rate by 100,000 miles is estimated to be 15-20%. That's pathetic.

Doesn't the Honda CRV have a CVT engine?

I mean CVT transmission (not engine)

Love my Honda CRV Touring edition. Had a 15 year old CVR that was rear ended at a red light by a driver not paying attention, went right out and bought another CRV. Reliable, drives well in snow, touring has high end electronics.
