Why yes on the second one. I am voting dem as well, but plan on voting no to both. Not sure why the property tax relief should continue no matter where in state you move, just because your spouse was a veteran. Yes, I appreciate veterans and spouses, but fee at some point the exemptions for taxes just have to stop.

It's not giving them a new benefit, it's just letting them carry the existing benefit to a different property so you don't end up with military spouses stuck in homes that otherwise don't work for them after the veteran spouse dies (too expensive, not near family, etc.), because they can't afford to give up the property tax exemption.

Well, if only the spouse could, you know, get a JOB to fund her choices, instead of suckling off the government teat.

Anyone voting yes to this had better not complain about useless people getting handouts.

I am a Dem, and this is how I voted as well, and for the same reason (that I believe we need to discourage continued building in flood prone areas). Of course I didn't read this thread before I went and did not know the questions before I walked in. As a result, I had to use my critical thinking skills on my feet while at the polls, lol.

I wondered what the R sample ballot suggests for the veterans question - anyone know?

That veterans benefit has zero percentage or $ cap related to the property tax. Or the total assets. If the exempt property tax was 5k and the new is 15k? There should be language in that bill addressing the scenario. Might vote yes.

Flooding? Definitively a NO. Fairfax County added money to stormwater tax rate which was slit from property tax a few years ago in an element of subterfuge disguising actual property related rate increases. Also in Mount Vernon District is a newer and aggregiously offensive issue with direct ties to this vote. As part of the route 1 corridor the locals want improvements. Part of that is a plot occupied by a welding ship and there were illegal businesses since shut down. Townhouse development pushed by County Supervisor Storck.
