School Photo photographers and prices?

I don't think schools should be in the portrait business. It's an odd and outdated tradition. The only meaningful picture you'll get - that you can't do better as you please - are class photos, and those are increasingly taken on handheld cameras by teachers, PTA etc. I argue that we'd all be better of doing away with it. Even photographers may benefit because we might actually take that money and get a decent family photo taken. There are better PTA fundraisers. Plus, it's a huge headache and disruption for schools, with no tangible benefits, certainly no school-related benefits.

What?! It's a time-old tradition and one that is beloved. Also, the class photo is really helpful for parents trying to figure out who is who each year when kids talk about their friends.
