How in the world would a consultant help in this circumstance?

I think a consultant would have ideas about how to handle the situation, including specific knowledge of teachers at the K-8 school and the Admissions Officers at the application school. It wasn't my suggestion but I think it is a good one that I would consider depending on how much my child wanted to attend the school in question. While $4k is a lot of money, it will be less than a 2-3% cost of the overall tuition expenditure for some high schools in this area.

The consultants are a waste of time. And they can hurt your application if the schools know you are using them.
