Be sure to leave stroller at home. Many places won’t allow for or store them. Maybe a snap & go... |
It’s not, I just find it odd. |
Pro tip- if you turn a high chair upside down, you can place a car seat in it.
My general rule of thumb is if the restaurant has high chairs or booster seats then there’s no problem bringing a newborn, otherwise call the restaurant and ask. |
I take my newborn all the time into fancy restaurants. He's never cried and the worst that happened was he had to nurse under his cover. My 2 year old also goes to fancy restaurants and behaves properly without an iPad.
Btw, these restaurants won't have changing tables and many won't have height chairs. |
Another option is to go out for brunch |
We did this all the time before DD was about 4 months old! Enjoy! |
Congrats. No one asked you how well behaved your precious toddler is |
Newborn, go for it. We brought our newborn everywhere and enjoyed many a really nice dinner out. The restaurant might make it a little "difficult" (we don't have high chairs is an excuse I've heard), but at that age, you don't need a high chair, except to turn it upside down as a PP said. Now that my son is 17 months old, it's way more work and we pick our places a bit more carefully. |
I thought it was super odd as well. |
Not safe. https://www.babycenter.com/400_is-it-safer-to-flip-a-restaurant-high-chair-upside-down-for_2860611_670.bc |
+1 - my friend's baby fell out of one. He was strapped into his car seat and was fine, but after seeing it happen I would never do that again. |
Turn the high chair upside down and you can put your carseat right on it.

aaaand, never mind just saw above |
Took NB to a lot of restaurants. Typically slept through the whole meal. No one had an issue. I kept the carseat on the floor, partially under the table. Never called ahead either. Much less stressful than taking a toddler or a young kid. Oh and definitely go earlier. There are less people and staff tend to be more patient earlier in their shift. |
