When/how did you decide it was time for a RE?

I agree with everyone else. Give yourself until the end of the year and at that point maybe schedule sone testing. Given your previius successful pregnancies you may be dealing with a structural abnormality that recently surfaced (think a fibroid or polyp). This would be seen on an ultrasound of your uterus and would be part of the testing that would be ordered. I would plan to see soneone in January and try your best to relax for now knowing that you have a plan in place for the new year. There are so many options before getting to ivf so try not to focus on that for now.

Thank you very much for your response. I don't think that I have a polyp or fibroid since I just had an ultrasound with my first chemical to rule out an ectopic pregnancy and the technician and doctor did not mention seeing anything abnormal on the ultrasound.

I think thats a good plan though and give myself time until January and then reevaluate.

Can they tell this from an ultrasound though? I recall there is another procedure they do prior to ivf to see your uterus. The name is escaping me but I think it may be the one where they fill your uterus with water...

Op here ... no i haven’t had anything other than a basic ultrasound after my first chemical to rule out ectopic.

I would look into that in January. I have a friend who was having numerous chemicals for her second and found out she had a polyp I believe. She had a procedure to remove it. Waited the recommended time and got pregnant with her second who is now a few months old. The polyp or whatever it was had developed sometime in the four years between her first and second kid.

It can sometimes take 6 months to get an initial appointment with an RE. I would make your appointment now, even if it’s a few months out. If you successfully get pregnancy before the appointment, you can just cancel it. But, if you wait until it’s been six months and then it takes six months to get a appointment, you will regret the time lost.

FWIW--Last spring (April/May time frame), when I was trying to decide between clinics, I was able to get new patient consultations with the REs I wanted to see at both Columbia and Dominion within 2 weeks of my initial phone call. However, my hunch is that the clinics may get busier in January when new insurance plans take effect, patients were waiting after the holidays, etc.

Yeah it generally shouldn't take you 6 months to get an appointment. Shady Grove had an appointment within a week of when I first called. CCRM Northern Virginia was the same. The only one I really had to wait for was GWU but that was because I wanted to see Dr. Frankfurter specifically so it took 7 or 8 weeks. I could have seen another doctor there within 2 weeks.
