Co-Workers kids have H1N1, she is exposed and coming to work and I am pregnant...

OP, it obviously sucks on her part, but you could have been exposed anywhere without knowing it. Stay calm. You are about to be in a hospital setting with your newborn, so if you do come down with symptoms discuss that right away.

However, please do not request pre-emptive Tamiflu without feeling symptoms. That medicine should be reserved for those who have been infected with the flu and are in a high risk category. You are not sure you have contracted it, so taking it pre-emptively will probably do nothing except further dwindle the supplies. Talk to your OB/GYN and just stay very hydrated, drink lots of vitamin C, wash your hands religiously, etc.

OP here-FMLA does not apply to me simply because we are under 50 employees. It alpplies in all other areas. I am starting tamiflu tonight-perscribed by my OB...most with the symptoms are rejecting it anyways. I will do what it takes to keep my baby safe, there have been waaaay too many cases with pregnant woman loosing their babies.

What's the theory here? If a pregnant woman has been seriously exposed, I would put her in front of regular adults with some symptoms for Tamiflu. I'm glad the OP is taking it, she is in a tough spot because if she is going to develop the flu, she will have it when she delivers. She won't be able to pass immunity on fast enough to the baby through nursing. The timing is unfortunate although I am sure she and the baby will be fine.

OP, you are 39 weeks - that's full term. I get that you don't want to get the flu, but it's not like you'd be forced to prematurely deliver at 26 weeks or something. Your baby is already full term, so I hope you feel some security knowing that. Your child could be delivered and you could be aggressively treated if you did become ill.

good luck! h1n1 or not, nobody wants to be sick when they deliver. Better to kick it now so you won't have to endure any separation from baby, which is standard of care if delivering mom shows symptoms. You should tell your insanely fucked up manager that, along with a firm slap to the mouth.

You will be exposed to lots of h1n1 germs at the hospital, so why sweat this. It's everywhere now.

Most women coming out of delivery do not develop swine flu nor do their newborns. It is not everywhere all the time.

I would maybe wear a mask at work to make the point. What a selfish person. From just having H1N1, sounds like she has it. Stay at least six feet away and wash your hands often.

I would do the same thing - I would wear a mask and walk around with anti bacterial wipes and sanitizer since she clearly is doesnt get it. Yes, the flu is going around and so many ppl will get it at some point but not 100% of everyone will and I feel bad for any new mom and/or newborn to have to go through such misery.
