I prefer scripted shows. Not so easy to find.
2 channels “antenna tv” and “me tv” have stuff from 60s 70s 80s |
| In terms of Disney shows, I love stuck in the middle. Kids help and stick up for one another— far more functional than our own family. |

Project MC2 on Amazon or maybe it’s Netflix.
Just Add Magic on Netflix. Annedroids on Amazon. And top chef jr., Great British Baking Show |
| I would worry less about the relationships and more about the way those shows tend to depict parents as clueless, uninvolved, and/or the butt of every joke. I never let my kids watch Disney shows for that reason. Instead, we watched tv together that had somewhat older themes but didn’t teach them to be obnoxious brats. |

+1 for the old TV shows. My kids even liked the really old ones like Make Room for Daddy and the Burns and Allen show. We also enjoyed MASH and Carol Burnett, which I felt were fine, but might have mature content you wouldn't be comfortable with.
Netflix has A Series of Unfortunate Events, which I think is really well done. |
| Jerry Springer is a good start. |
| Full House and Fuller House are great. The original series is on Hulu and the reboot on Netflix. |
Very good point. |
Thanks for the Young Sheldon rec. I didn't mean to imply my son was 10 now. He is 13 now and has watched every single TBBT episode. His little sister has watched along with him (plenty of strong women characters, three of which are scientists)... They've also read and watched The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, which arguably portrays women in a more passive role. And they loved Cosmos!!! I am not comfortable with explicit scenes of sex and torture, though, so they won't be watching those for quite some time. |
| I actually don't allow Disney shows. The kids are super obnoxious, lie to parents, ignore parents, and are all around *ssholes. I much rather my kids watch cooking shows, Million Dollar Listing, Big Bang Theory, What Would You Do, House Hunters, The Crown, etc. |
| 10 yo DD: Sugar Rush, Master Chef Junior, Nailed It, British Baking Show, and American Ninja Warrier |

Wanted to add a plug for Project MC Squared on Netflix. My 10 DD loved it and I found it really good in terms of topic. Characters are a small group of young teen girls who, as part of a secret undercover international crime-solving league, use their STEM skills to solve crimes (eg an ocean polluter) /stop evildoers.
The girls are lively and one of them has a huge flair for fashion, showing that being girly and STEM- oriented are not mutually exclusive. Their league's big boss is played by Winnie from wonder years, Danica... Can't remember her last name. |
Another vote for Just Add Magic. But I think it's an Amazon original show, so maybe it streams on Amazon? Anyway--it's awesome. The girls are terrific--not obnoxious or disrespectful or boy crazy or stereotypical in any stupid, offensive way--it's about friendship and intergenerational relationships, which sadly are RARE on TV. It's awesome. I binge watched it with my kids and we all loved it! |
| Just Add Magic, Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Streer, Fuller House, the new One Day at a Time. The new One Day at a Time has bad language, but the overarching messages are so good that I don't mind. |
